The Memory Band was conceived as an imaginary band, built inside a computer and made flesh by the contributions of numerous musicians. Live, it is an acoustic band of ever changing numbers and on record it is at the forefront of a new approach to traditional music.

Featuring violins, harmoniums, guitars and whatever else is available The Memory Band perform pieces written by Stephen Cracknell, also responsible for the Gorodisch recordings on the Leaf label, who has produced the The Memory Band’s eponymous album.

In it's short history the band has been a temporary home to Adem of Fridge (and a solo deal on Domino records), Polly Paulusma (now signed to One Little Indian), assorted members of Moshi Moshi's recent signings Hot Chip and currently enjoys the company of Nancy Wallace and Rob Spriggs, most of whom have also taken part in recording the album.

"Not so much embraced but redefined the new folk movement"
Record Collector

"Easily the most beautiful record released this week. Or indeed most other weeks. The Memory Band's floating line-up has stretched to include Adem from Fridge and the resulting four-track seven inch is laced with dubbed out folk and the sort of shifting, broken-down jazz that finds Wes Montgomery getting namechecked in the NME for the first time since February 1957. Please do yourself a favour..."
NME

"The history of folk music is being bastardised by urbanites..and long may they continue if this exercise in agrarian spookiness is anything to go by"
Guardian Guide

"It’s music so far into the left field that you can’t see the fence, yet is so in tune with the rhythm of your soul it’s as though you grew up with this running through your veins. Heart-warming, soul-stirring stuff."
Logo Magazine

"The Memory Band are a walking, talking, gently strumming, softly singing
embodiment of a 21st Century dream."
iD

"Championing a fresh approach to eclectic folky electronica."
OMM

"A work of beauty combining folk and electronica with subtle excursions into
northern soul to form a warm rounded vibe."
Independent

"A scenic detour you'll want to take again and again."
