The Pistachio EP builds on the musique-concrete techno of Warmdesk's (aka Chicago's William Selman) much acclaimed Guero Variations album (Deluxe Records). On this 12", Warmdesk's penchant for sampling everyday life is still present, but is directed squarely at the dancefloor. Smooth house chord progressions, funky basslines (and we mean "the funk") and syncopated 4 on the floor beats bump up against the sounds of a bowl of pistachios, old shoes, AA batteries and office chairs. Pistachio is minimal house with quirky textures that evolve and develop, but never come across as junk-shop techno.
