Dirthole is Ashley Davies and Kirsten Reynolds of Project Dark choosing to play a collection of guitar-based noisy pop rock’n’roll. No other people were involved in the recording of ‘Stand Up or Give Up’ which contains 6 of the 14 tracks recorded in a 4 hour creative rampage that saw music reduced to jarring chords, bitter lyrics and thumping percussion.
The resultant EP hits you like a cross between some primitive Australian 60’s rock with the snarling angst of the 80’s New York Garage / Industrial scene. Dirthole is a return to the days when people took joy from playing in a band and relished the racket that it makes.
‘Stand Up or Give Up’ is the first of several limited edition releases from which some tracks will be extracted later in 2004 to form a full-length album. Most of the tracks will not receive a second release. It comes in a hand-stamped, stickered card package in a numbered edition of 50. An insert includes sleeve notes by A. Stroh.
