In January of 2002 Oren was commissioned by the Jerwood Foundation to compose a solo tuba piece which was performed five times at Wapping Hydraulic Power Station and recorded and broadcast by BBC radio 3's 'Jazz on 3' show.

A new recording has been specially prepared for this release on Slowfoot Records. "Spedy Sponda" demonstrates the versatility and range of Oren's solo performances. As the first part of a planned five part cycle, the movements of the first part explore the unique live set up Oren has developed which utilizes both the acoustic possibilities of the instrument as well as harnessing electronic modifications through a chain of effects pedals which allow him to build up loops and extend the tone and colour of the tuba. In the final movement Oren activates 5 different tuba bells simultaneously which are connected to one set of valves by hose pipe.
