ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE FROM JUNE 2000
I'm 23 years old, male, and Symptoms is my debut album. It is a solo project, all songs are written and performed by me alone. It is bedroom music, that is, I've composed and recorded everything on my desktop PC. My studio setup couldn't possibly be smaller. I'm using a slightly defective digital soundcard costing some 100 pounds, a guitar and a guitar amp. I don't even have my own sampler or sample source, all sounds used have been collected from various sources throughout the years.
I am sorry to say my musical preferences are hopelessly alternative mainstream. My main musical inspirations are Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Labradford, The Cure. Other influences include early Leonard Cohen, Sonic Youth, Duran Duran, Metallica, Radiohead even, Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins, My Bloody Valentine, Angelo Badalamenti, basically things hard, noisy or beautiful, preferably all at once.
This isn't a manifesto, but facts are boring.
I think, though I am not sure, that I've tried to make a very personal album. My music is possibly the best description of who I am there is. I've always connected with music that was, to me at least, highly personal, and somehow it makes sense I would try to do the same with my own music. This accounts for the expressive nature of my music, but is of course not the only aspect...
