In an unprecedented assault on the senses, ICARUS support BLURT at the Union Chapel for a further twist to the genre bending mayhem both bands are capable of unleashing.
BLURT have over 20 years played in almost every country in Europe including, as they disappeared, Yugoslavia and East Germany, and as they gained their independence, Poland, Hungary, Bratislava and Russia, simultaneously thriving on the threat of anarchy and dissolving in the quagmire of capitalism.
There are few bands that can survive such turmoil and still have something to offer over a such a period, especially those that arose out of punk & disco. BLURT, like THE FALL, are one of those anomalous sonic-poetic mysteries, consistently sounding both rudimentary & sophisticated, rhythmic & improvisasionally complex. "When the list is made of the authentic inheritors of Kurt Schwitters’s line of subversive nonsense – orators who question the power relations of rhetoric, and unleash weevils of humour and independent thought into the grain bags of wealth and power – Ted Milton will require a special place." (Ben
Watson/The Wire)
ICARUS have over their 4 album releases to date, like "Cronenbergian science-fiction vandals", consistently challenged listeners and reviewers alike.
"While not exactly easing us into the proceedings, what with their deafening sub-bass, distant melodies and fractured abstract polyrhythms. after some alcohol and an appreciation of the multitude of graphics on offer, it did start to make sense. On record, their output is twitching and unnerving (check out 'soviet igloo' on n/a for proof). Live it's simply staggering. scaling the same great heights as Autechre, the sounds can only be appreciated when one is fully immersed. not being interrupted by petty conversation or drinking. a revelation... "
