Kim Cascone + Scanner

(Sub Rosa) Releases

Kim Cascone created the label Silent in 1986. He is perhaps best known as David Lynch's Assistant Music Editor, producing and co-ordinating the sound on both 'Twin Peaks' and 'Wild at Heart'.

Described as 'computer generated music grainwave synthesis' his music convolves the ever-malleable output of the cSound programming language to create a sprawling series of miniature studies which Cascone re-combines in an ever-evolving series of potentially infinite complexity. Cascone describes the latest evolution in his music: "I never liked performing due
to having to haul gear around, so I'm building - to quote Robert Fripp - a 'small, mobile, intelligent unit for performing live.' This makes performing much easier
and, more importantly, more fun."

Robin Rimbaud, aka Scanner, is a musician, writer and minimalist anti hero whose eclectic mix of activities places him at the crossroads of academic
and digital pop culture.

Sculpting a sound that twists state-of-the-art technology in gloriously unconventional ways, his music ignites flaring beats with symphonic strings, fluttering electro rhythms with melancholic minimalism. Although it's the first time for Kim Cascone to work with Sub Rosa, it's not the case for Robin who's collaborated more than 15 times with the label.
