Living in Brooklyn by way of the northeast United States, Doug, aka Shakeyface, was born at the tail end of the 70's and grew up playing Curtis Blow records on his Fisher Price record player, listening to his mom's old Neil Diamond 8-tracks in the yellow Chevy Chevette.
Music was definitely a big thing growing up. Piano lessons, drum lessons, electric bass lessons, whatever. At 15, 16 maybe, he played in a questionable indie band and started to work on his early Shakeytracks.
At some point, Doug needed a name for his music producin' self. Of all the faces he could be, Shakeyface seemed good enough for him.
Shakeyface was soon making Shakeytapes every couple months and copying them for friends and random people who were feeling the vibe.
Doug spent a spell at Berklee School of Music in Boston, even if it was basically a dark period in his life, that is wrere he began to seriously dig in the crates, not to mention the garbage dumpsters behind the local record stores. The sampler was his new instrument, and he would stay up until dawn every night to perfect it.
Soon enough, Shakey had to get to New York. Late night beat making sessions lasted until the wee hours. The city was and is a constant influence on his music. It's impossible to live in the birthplace of hip hop and not be immensely influenced.
When not working on music all night, Shakey worked what we like to call "a day job". At the same time, Shakey also promoted a monthly party that allowed him to develop his dj style as well the chance to work with some amazing musicians: Africa Bambaataa, I-sound, WE(tm), Grandmaster D.St, Push Button Objects, and many others.
