Akatombo (Paul Thomsen Kirk) is the Japanese name for a very beautiful species of dragonfly.

He says: "Trace Elements came about through a fascination with the layering of sound - any type of sound - from any source. Not necessarily those that most of us think of as "musical". Each song on the album was written, recorded and mixed on the same day of it's conception - in Hiroshima, in a studio that specializes in soundtracks for TV adverts - with the help of an engineer who didn't speak English. I like pressure. I like to push myself. The theme of "urban alienation" is a recurrent throughout the album. (Even though I live in Japan, I will always be an outsider. Kind of "on the outside looking in"). Thus, during the summer of 2002, in daily average temperatures of 35 degrees with 80% humidity, I put together this album."

At one time or another, I have been some, if not all, of the following: mechanical engineer, hi-fi salesman, record store manager, punk rock drummer, flying doctor, tour manager, production manager for a San Francisco punk label, label owner who put Idlewild's first record out, band manager, promoter, bouncy castle technician, kindergarten teacher, bricklayers assistant, English teacher, heavy plant mechanic and milk-boy. AKATOMBO film on show in ATHENS, Greece..

A video from AKATOMBO`s recently completed "Unconfirmed Reports" audio/visual project , namely "SSRI", has been chosen to be screened in Athens, Greece @ Video Art - Start From Zero Festival as part of the nationwide travelling Festival Miden International Film Festival. AKATOMBO films on show at Wisconsin Film Festival - This weekend

The videos for four new AKATOMBO tracks - "Cypher", "SSRI", "Tondo" & "The Sand Collector" - will be shown as part of the 9th Annual Wisconsin Film Festival . The Festival runs from Thursday, April 12th to Sunday, April 15th.
