The Memory Band

(Hungry Hill) Releases || News || Links

Conceived as "an imaginary group playing music drawn from the collective databank", The band has been assembled by Stephen Cracknell, erstwhile Badly Drawn Boy sideman who under his Gorodisch moniker released the well received mini album Thurn & Taxis on the Leaf Label.

Acoustic instruments such as harmoniums, autoharps and chiming guitars are set against the rhythmic impulses of hip hop, post rock and northern soul.

The Memory Band avoids any form of musical puritanism and embraces the freedom principles of the digital age. It looks for inspiration to the work of influential mavericks such as Robert Wyatt and Talk Talk, along with a grasp of brevity drawn from classic pop singles.
